Levels of Instruction
01
Introductory
Learn to safely approach, halter, and lead a horse. Learn to groom, tack, mount, and dismount safely. Introduction to riding aids, correct riding position and balance exercises on and off the lounge line. Introduce walking and trotting, the concept of diagonals, two-point position and posting at the trot. Learn to utilize riding aids in steering exercises off the lounge line.
02
Beginner
Properly identify tack and grooming supplies, learn and master diagonals, begin introducing pole work, introduce sitting trot, improve and strengthen two-point position, improve use of all riding aids in steering and gait transitions, learn emergency stops.
03
Beginner II
Tacking independently, increasing strength and equitation at walk, trot, and two-point. Introduction to no stirrup work at the walk and trot, improve the use of all riding aids. Introduction of cantering on the lounge. Learn about leads, develop ability and confidence in pole patterns, introduction to x-rail jumping and stride counting.

Intermediate
Work on transitions, correctly identify leads, expand the use of riding aids. Introduce leg yielding, half halting, and leg-to-hand contact. Introduction to collection and extension at all gaits. Continue to work on x-rails and jumping small fences. Begin course work, improve stride counting.

Intermediate II
Develop clear understanding and execution of circles, serpentines and figure eight patterns. Continue transition work, and apply to course work. Improve counting of strides, balance, position, and strength over fences, jumping to 2’3”. Introduction to gymnastic grid work.
06
Advanced
Continue strengthening of equitation, apply prior knowledge to higher jumps, introduce and learn to execute simple and then flying lead changes. Introduce no stirrup work. Continue to improve balance and rhythm in coursework. Learn to alter stride length on the flat and in coursework, utilize all aids to maximize responsiveness and rideability.
